Steve & Kate’s Camp
45 Camps around the U.S. serving about 30,000 kids
I think we all know that morning drop-off can be a stressful endeavor, especially in the summer when routines are different.
On this project, our Director of Business Operations acted as the product manager. I loved working with him on requirements. The bulk of the design work was related to ensuring campers were eligible for pre-check and making sure the communication and steps to get eligible were easy, clear, and actionable from the parent/guardian account. We wanted to make sure families could use ECI easily from a computer the night before or as they ran out the door, so these web designs needed to be responsive and flexible despite packing in a lot of information.
Our seasonal staff worked really hard to be up and running on day one of each summer. It was important to provide simple, clear interfaces they could use while interacting with adults and kids. This wasn’t office software! Moreover, staff training was also key to our launch to ensure that parents got consistent messages throughout the process and staff weren’t surprised by any of the changes.
While staff in the standard check-in line used computers so they could help parents purchase days, sign incomplete forms, or complete any number of other tasks, our staff running the ECI line used phones to quickly scan badges of pre-checked campers.
